I remember back in 1996 when I received the first shipment of my marimba CD, Polaris. I had already produced two steel band recordings with Panama Steel (Oyelo and Pan Man), but Polaris was a completely different experience. Instead of working with the band in the studio, I was recording in a concert hall and focusing on marimba. It was like Christmas when the boxes arrived with the Polaris CDs! My office was full of marimba CD boxes! What a feeling to be able to share the music of Christopher Deane, Lynn Glassock, Mark Alan Taggart and of course my own compositions.
Then in 2000 I received another grant this time from the University of North Texas to record a second marimba CD, Motion Beyond. This project too was special as I had the opportunity to collaborate with David Maslanka to make the first recording of his amazing Variations on Lost Love. Additionally this grant gave me the opportunity to record with my good friend Eugene Corporon and the UNT Wind Symphony and also the UNT Percussion Ensemble. What an experience!
Both of these CDs were reprinted several times over and now, 19 years later, I am happy to announce that they are both available again on CD Baby and iTunes. Many thanks to all of you that have enjoyed these discs and continue to play this music!
